Ability Score Racial Traits: Humans gain a +2 racial bonus to one ability score of their choice.
Type: Humans are humanoids with the human subtype.
Size: Humans are Medium creatures and thus receive no bonuses or penalties due to their size.
Speed: Humans have a base speed of 30 feet.
Survivors: Humans receive a +2 racial bonus on Climb, Survival, and Swim skill checks.
Low-Light Vision: Humans treat the effective radius of bright light, normal light, and dim light as being double what it actually is.
Frightened by Magic: Humans are uneasy around magic, especially spells that have large, impressive effects. Whenever a human is damaged or affected by a spell or supernatural ability that has an obvious visual component, the human is shaken for 1 round unless he can pass a will save equal to the spell’s DC, even if that spell normally does not allow a save. If the spell in question allows a will save, the save to avoid becoming shaken is rolled separately. Shamans do not suffer from a fear of magic.
Humans live in hunter-gatherer clans numbering 20-100 individuals. Division of labor is based on skills and abilities with strong members acting as hunters, skilled members making jewelry, keen eyed members foraging, etc. Regardless of role everyone is expected to give the best they can for the survival of the community.
On top of normal members each clan has one or two spiritual leaders, the shamans. The role of a shaman is to act as a healer, to lead the clan in ritual, to communicate with the spirits when times get dire, and most importantly to keep and retell the clan’s stories.
Sexuality and Parenthood
Humans lack any sexual taboos, to them sex is simply an act shared between close individuals of any number or gender. They also have no nudity taboo, though you wouldn’t wanna walk around naked in the thick brush or in winter.
Humans also have no concept of fatherhood, only motherhood. To them a child “belongs” to its mother, since they aren’t actually aware of how sexual reproduction works. The mother is responsible with disciplining her children if they act out of line and to teach them the rights and wrongs of society, she is also responsible for who she entrusts with looking after them if she’s busy with other matters.
Humans worship a small handful of primordial deities, as well as the animistic spirits of the world. See Religion
The humans of From Dawn use carefully shaped beads as currency amongst other things. Strings of these beads are also used as jewelry, allowing people to not only show off their wealth on their person but to also always have it handy. These beads are also used as badges of office by chiefs, shamans, messenger, and traders.
